Flood Barriers and Flood Protection for Public Works and Muncicipalities
Barrier Solutions works closely with Public Works and Muncicipalities to ensure appropriate flood defenses are in place whenever a flood warning arises.
When flood warnings are issued, speed is the key. The responsibility to act often falls to Public Works and Muncicipalities and their emergency planning department to try to ensure that there is adequate flood protection to keep their communities safe.
That’s where FLOODSTOP - flood defense barrier can offer massive benefits over traditional sandbag methods. FLOODSTOP - flood protection can be easily and rapidly assembled, and because each of the 0.5m system’s components complies with health and safety lifting regulations, they can be deployed by one person. The FS36 system can be quickly deployed by a team of two people.
Unlike sandbags, FLOODSTOP flood protection barriers can be used time and again, meaning they are extremely economical.
FLOODSTOP - flood defense has been sold to Public Works, Muncicipalities and Government bodies throughout the USA and Europe, including The World Trade Centre, USA Navy, National Grid and The Environment Agency.
The system provides a real solution to the struggles that emergency planners face when dealing with flood protection issues.

"We are using the system and it is working great; Floodstop is keeping our platform and car park open and safe to our customers and colleagues during recent extreme weather and associated flooding"
Matthew Lee, First Great Western
Jackson Civils carry out contracting for The Environment Agency. A large proportion of their work is to build or repair permanent flood defence walls. During the works there is an innate flood risk due to the removal of the existing flood wall; Floodstop is deployed to ensure a robust, proven flood barrier system is in place protecting at risk locations during the construction works.
"We are delighted that we now have an easy to deploy flood preventionsystem on the island. It will allow us to protect our newly refurbished reception when we have exceptionally high tides. We were completely fed up with deploying sandbags in the past. The barrier was in action today [Sept 2010] and prevented flooding of the walkway and reception. It’s fantastic."
Angela Cott, National Trust Property Manager at Brownsea Island
Our 0.9m and 0.5m high Floodstop barriers have been supplied to many nuclear sites in the UK and USA. As an example, at a UK nuclear site which is being decommissioned, our 0.9m high Floodstop system has been supplied to create a perimeter defence barrier to protect various assets from the perceived risk of flooding. Our systems are deployed on a permanent basis or as a rapid response barrier if a spillage or flood occurs.
“The project protects a low-lying area that often floods in heavy rain when sewers and storm drains overflow.”
ABC7 News Anchor
In response to the devastating Cockermouth floods of 2009 the Environment Agency and its contractors have been working on temporary and fixed barrier solutions to mitigate against future flood events. Fluvial Innovations have provided a significant quantity of flood barrier to protect a number of locations prior to permanent defences being built to protect from flooding.
“Flooding does set us back, we need industry here. With this system (Floodstop) we will give more people the belief they can come and set up businesses here”
Joe Trussler, Mayor of Sandwich
“This was a great opportunity for the community to test the deployment (Floodstop) of the defences whilst also testing the response of the Environment Agency and local Town Council Volunteers. The day was a great success and the exercise has helped us to ensure the process is as efficient as possible to reduce flood risk in the area”
Aysha Musson, the asset performance engineer for the Environment Agency
